NYPD Traffic Enforcement Leads to Gun Arrest

“The driver seemed very nervous, and he admitted to having a gun in his waistband when we questioned him,” said Police Officer Lopez.

On Thursday, February 1, police officers from the 46 Precinct stopped a Chevrolet Blazer SUV at the intersection of West 179th Street and West Burnside Avenue, after observing the driver go through the intersection while the traffic light was red. Upon approaching the vehicle, they smelled a strong odor of marijuana and ordered the driver to step out. The man admitted that he was carrying a loaded handgun. He was placed under arrest along with a passenger. A loaded .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun and a quantity of marijuana were recovered.
