“When we recovered the gun I thought about a 5-year-old boy that was struck by a stray bullet on the same corner last year,” said Sergeant Lamont Gibson of the PSA 7 Anti-crime Team.
“We are out there making a difference, one gun at a time.”
On Sunday, January 28 members of the NYPD Police Service Area 7 Anti-crime Team were on patrol near the intersection of East 167 Street and Washington Avenue when they observed a man adjusting a handgun in his waistband. When the suspect noticed the police officers he fled and attempted to throw the firearm onto the second story roof of a nearby FDNY fire house. The man was arrested after a foot pursuit. A loaded Smith and Wesson .380 handgun and two ounces of marijuana were recovered.
