“I just did what we’re supposed to do,” Detective Warkenthien humbly said of his heroic actions.
Then-Police Officer Walter Warkenthien, while on his way to NYPD HQ to be promoted to Detective, saw a suicidal man on the edge of the subway platform. He immediately sprung into action pulling the man to safety. Good Samaritans then helped hold onto the man while they waited for more officers to arrive. The man was then taken by ambulance to the hospital.
