Saluting Our Veterans

To the men and women of the New York City Police Department:

Today is Veterans Day, a time we set aside each year to honor all the men and women who have served our country in uniform. Several thousand active members of the New York City Police Department are also members of the military who have pulled double-duty. Today, and every day, we thank them for their efforts, because they truly are the best our city and our nation have to offer. They are citizens who are strong enough to serve in two unique uniforms joined by a common bond. And in defending freedom and upholding the law, they protect everyone in the greatest city in the country, on behalf of the greatest nation in the world. Please join me in recognizing all that these brave professionals have accomplished – and what they continue to do – for us, and for our freedom.

Thank you for your service, happy Veterans Day, and stay safe.

Sincerely,

James P. O’Neill
Police Commissioner
