To the men and women of the New York City Police Department:
All across the United States today, families and friends are gathering with loved ones to give thanks for all they have. Millions of people who live in, work in, and visit New York City are thankful for you – the men and women of the NYPD.
Thousands of you are watching over the Thanksgiving Day Parade and all its participants and spectators, while thousands more are patrolling our neighborhoods, housing developments, and transit system. Policing is a unique profession, and you carry out your duties uniquely well – every day of the year. I know the sacrifices you make, including being away from your own families on holidays like this.
Today, I – like all New Yorkers – am grateful for your dedication and professionalism. For nearly 35 years, I’ve seen first-hand the amazing things you’ve accomplished. And as we near the end of another calendar year, the uniformed and civilian members of this department continue to prove that we fulfill our core mission – building trust, fighting crime, and keeping people safe – better than anyone else, anywhere in this nation.
Thank you for what you do. Happy Thanksgiving, and always stay safe.
