Housing Officers Receive CompStat Award for Helping Close a Dangerous Robbery Pattern

Police Officers Angehr and Ramos from Police Service Area 5 (PSA 5) received the NYPD’s CompStat Award for helping close a dangerous robbery pattern in Manhattan. While patrolling public housing in upper Manhattan, Officers Angehr and Ramos spotted a distressed male. The officers immediately pulled over and learned that the man had just been robbed at gunpoint. According to the victim, the two perpetrators displayed a firearm, stole $230, and fled northbound on 3rd Avenue toward a fast food chain.

The officers notified the 911 dispatcher of the incident and began to canvass the area. At East 116th Street they tactically entered the fast food restaurant and approached a man that matched one of the suspect’s descriptions. With an identity confirmation from the victim, the officers arrested the perpetrator and recovered a loaded .44 caliber magnum revolver.

This arrest was further investigated by the 23 Precinct Detective Squad later that day. The Detective Squad successfully obtained video surveillance footage that implicated the second suspect. The following morning, the PSA 5 Anti-Crime team picked up the second robber. Further investigation by the 23 and 30 Detective Squads connected the two perpetrators to four previous armed robberies. In one of the cases, shots were fired during the incident. Police Officer Angehr and Ramos were recognized for their sound tactics and astute observations.
