“We thought that we were dealing with a real gun,” said Sergeant Kevin Hanif of the Transit District 30 Anti-Crime Team. “I’m glad that my team is so well trained and handled the situation with professionalism.”
On Tuesday, November 21, at approximately 6:00 p.m. police officers responded to a south bound 4 train after a passenger notified the conductor of a man with a gun. The 53-year-old suspect was observed displaying a handgun then hiding it under his clothes.
The officers boarded the train at the Nevins Street station and stopped the man after he was pointed out by the passenger. The suspect attempted to flee but was placed under arrest after a brief struggle. A BB gun was recovered at the scene.
