NYPD honorees and their loved ones gathered at Police Headquarters for the Centurion Foundation’s quarterly awards ceremony. Twenty-five of New York’s Finest were selected by a nominations committee for going above and beyond in their service to our city. Police Commissioner James O’Neill and Chief of Department Carlos Gomez presented the awards alongside Joseph Dipell, David Gold, and Robert Vagenson of the Centurion Foundation. During his remarks, Police Commissioner O’Neill praised those present for their noteworthy accomplishments:
“You saved the lives of sick and injured New Yorkers and stopped people from hurting themselves. You conducted complex investigations and you displayed courage that most couldn’t imagine – never shying away from danger.”
Among those recognized were two NYPD housing officers who stopped a suicidal man from jumping off a rooftop. Additional officers were lauded for conducting a rapid water rescue off the coast of Rockaway Beach and for executing an investigation that led to the recovery of more than 5,000 packets of heroin and 24 firearms. These are just a few examples of the incredible ways those honored, and all NYPD members, keep New Yorkers safe every day.
