The semi-annual NYPD Military Seminar was held at 1 Police Plaza on Wednesday, Oct 4. The all-day event hosted by the Personnel Bureau provided assistance to members of the service who have prior military service or have recently returned from deployment. Representatives from various units spoke to approximately 300 veterans and presented information on:

  • Career enhancement
  • Pension and retirement benefits
  • Military fraternal organizations
  • Wellness and counseling services
  • Educational opportunities

“We are excited to be hosting this event and to have the opportunity to acknowledge our veterans and their service to our country,” said Sergeant Rebecca Mayo of the Military Extended Leave Desk.

Approximately 12% of New York City Police Department personnel have served in branches of the United States military. There are 4,244 veterans serving across various ranks with 226 uniformed and civilian members deployed stateside and at overseas locations. Of those, 165 were deployed as part of a wartime effort.
