Information Regarding Home Invasion Robbery/Homicide In Brooklyn

Remarks as Prepared for Deputy Chief Michael Kemper Regarding the 81 Precinct Home Invasion Robbery/ Homicide

Today at approximately 3:30 pm officers assigned to the 81 Precinct responded to 160 Decatur Street as a result of a 911 call of people tied up inside of that location.  Upon the officers arrival they were met by a 99 year-old woman who identified herself as the 911 caller as well as the homeowner.  This 99-year-old female further stated that unknown people entered her apartment and tied her and her husband up.  She further stated that her husband, a 91 year-old male, was still inside of the location tied up.

Based on her statements the officers entered the apartment and found her 91 year-old husband tied up and lying on the floor and he was unresponsive.  The officers immediately requested EMS and began CPR efforts.  When the ambulance arrived, they removed this male to Interfaith Hospital where he was declared deceased at 4:20 pm.

The 99-year-old female was treated on the scene by EMS for superficial marks around her legs consistent with being tied up and she was ultimately removed to an area hospital for further evaluation.  Her injuries are not serious.  At this time we are treating this incident as a home invasion robbery/ homicide.  As such, it is a very active crime scene and the investigation is ongoing.
