Chief Monahan Remarks Regarding the 100 Precinct Police Involved Shooting

At approximately 1200 hours, three uniformed officers and a Sergeant from the 100th Precinct responded to an assault in progress at 130-00 Shore Front Parkway. Upon arrival, they observed a female in the rear of the building laying in the grass with a stab wound to her torso. The officers were directed upstairs to the first floor hallway where they encountered a male armed with a knife. The officers gave repeated verbal commands to “DROP THE KNIFE”. The suspect did not comply and three separate tasers were deployed and had no effect. The suspect still armed, advanced forward and one officer discharged his weapon once, striking the suspect in the right leg. The suspect and the victim were taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition. The knife was recovered and the investigation is ongoing.
