Police Involved Shooting (Brooklyn)

Remarks, as delivered, by Chief of Patrol Terence Monahan:

Good afternoon. This information I am about to provide to you is preliminary and subject to change.

At approximately 12:22 p.m. this afternoon, the NYPD received a 911 call about a man who was emotionally disturbed. Four police officers, in uniform, from the 67 Precinct responded to 1370 New York Avenue in East Flatbush. Upon arriving at the fifth floor apartment, officers knocked on the door and were let in by a woman. When the police officers entered the apartment, they were charged at by a man with a large carving knife. One of the police officers deployed a Taser, which proved to be ineffective. At that point a second police officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

I can take a few of your questions, but again, this incident happened less than two hours ago. Our investigation is still developing and this information is subject to change based on what we learn.
