NYPD Aviation Officers Rescue Man 20 Miles Offshore

NYPD Aviation officers rescued a sick man on a cargo ship miles of the coast of Brooklyn Sunday afternoon. The NYPD received a call from the United States Coast Guard seeking assistance for a medical evacuation of a 22-year-old man aboard a cargo vessel approximately 20 nautical miles southeast of Floyd Bennet Field.

Officers assigned to the NYPD Aviation Unit responded to the vessel and lowered an NYPD medic to the deck of the ship. The officer rendered aid to the man and prepared him to be hoisted up to the NYPD helicopter. The patient was then transported to Staten Island University Medical Center with chest pains, abdominal pain, and a severe headache.
