Cops Stop Man For Marijuana, Gun Recovered

(L-R) PO Edwards, Det. Garland, Sgt. Fradera

“The officers did a great job. They got the gun, they got the drugs, and no one was injured,” said Sergeant Fradera.

Police Officers on the Lower East Side of Manhattan recovered a gun and drugs after chasing down a fleeing suspect earlier this month. Detective Garland and Police Officer Edwards of the Manhattan South Gang Unit were on patrol at South Street and Rutgers Slip when they noticed a man smoking marijuana under an overpass. When they stopped him he initially complied with their directions, but then fled from the officers. The officers were able to place him under arrest after a short foot pursuit and they recovered a loaded 9mm Ruger semi-automatic handgun that the suspect threw while he ran.
