Community Affairs Officer Recognized for his Service to the Sikh Community

On Sunday, April 16, Officer Martinez received an unexpected award from the GurDawara Sahib Baba Makhan Shah Lobana Sikh Center. Officer Martinez was recognized for his outstanding contributions and excellent service to the Sikh community. As a Community Affairs Officer, Officer Martinez partners with neighborhood leaders, civic organizations, and religious institutions. Officer Martinez strives to foster positive relationships with members of the community and embrace their customs:

“When I enter the temple, I remove my boots and cover my head. I always try to be as respectful as possible and observe their traditions.”

In anticipation of a holiday celebration at the Sikh temple, Officer Martinez provided police barriers and no parking signs. Throughout the day, he went door to door informing members of the community about the event and providing traffic control. When Officer Martinez entered the temple to ensure the event was running smoothly, he was surprised to find out he was being recognized.

Officer Martinez was especially honored to receive this award because he believes it embodies what he loves most about being a Community Affairs Officer:

“I get to learn about so many different cultures, religions, and ethnicities. While it is great learning and interacting with people from different cultures, it is even more rewarding knowing that I am helping all members of my community.” said Officer Martinez.

Members of the temple thanked Officer Martinez for going above and beyond to ensure the safety of their community.
