Queens Cops Honored For Heroics


We were on our way to visit with someone in need of domestic violence services when we heard shattering glass and what seemed like a car accident or an explosion,” said Police Officer Jennifer Martinez. “We saw people running and smoke coming from a building. We ran inside and started banging on apartment doors to get people out” 

Sergeant Nikki Lawrence and Police Officer Jennifer Martinez of the 106 Precinct’s Domestic Violence Unit were named Cops of the Month by the 106 Precinct Community Council. On the Thursday,  September 8, the two police officers observed a fire at an apartment building located at 120-05 109 Avenue. They were the first on the scene and went floor by floor alerting residents of the emergency. Due to their brave actions, residents were safely evacuated.
