Police Involved Shooting (Queens)


Remarks (as prepared) by Assistant Chief David Barrere, Commanding Officer, Patrol Borough Queens South

This evening, at approximately 9:20 P.M., inside of the Baisley Housing Development located at 116-80 Guy R. Brewer Blvd., a plainclothes lieutenant and police officer assigned to the NYPD Housing Bureau Police Service Area 9, were conducting an interior patrol at the location.

As they exited the 2nd floor stairwell, they encountered a male with a firearm in his hand.

During this encounter, both the lieutenant and the police officer fired their weapons, striking the perpetrator one time in the left leg. The perpetrator was transported to Jamaica Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

The lieutenant and the police officer were also transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

A loaded 9MM firearm was recovered at the scene.

The perpetrator is a 38-year-old male identified as Jamel Ethridge who has an extensive arrest history that includes attempted murder, and multiple arrests for criminal possession of a firearm.

The investigation is ongoing and will continue to be investigated by the Force Investigation Division.
