Police Commissioner Bratton To Leave NYPD; Chief O’Neill To Take Over In September


New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced during a press conference today that current NYPD Chief of Department, James O’Neill, will become Commissioner of the New York City Police Department next month.  During the press conference current Police Commissioner William Bratton stated he will be leaving the NYPD next month for a position in the private sector.

Chief O’Neill stated his new leadership team will include the following current NYPD executives:

  • First Deputy Commissioner, Benjamin Tucker
  • Chief of Department, Carlos Gomez (currently Chief of Patrol)
  • Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence and Counterterrorism, John Miller
