Off-Duty NYPD Detective Arrests Purse Snatcher

Resized952016051895120230Off-duty Detective Ralph Gaglioti arrested a woman for a purse snatch in Brooklyn after hearing the screams of the victim. Detective Gaglioti was just about to get a haircut nearby when he heard the commotion and immediately sprang into action.

After hearing the 72-year-old woman yell for help because her purse was taken, several community members began to chase the suspect. It was not long after that when Detective Gaglioti joined the chase and was at the head of the group running after the suspect.

“I noticed people behind her chasing her, and I heard the screams of: ‘Stop her! She just grabbed my bag!” said Detective Gaglioti who is assigned to the NYPD’s Aviation Unit. “I jumped on her and I grabbed her, identified myself as a police officer, and I held her down.”

The 27-year-old woman was taken into custody by responding uniformed cops and charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.
