Officer assigned to Manhattan’s 17 Precinct arrested two men and recovered a loaded Derringer handgun early morning on Halloween. Police Officers Christopher Neil and Michael Papparlardo were patrolling the area near Second Avenue and 38th Street where they observed two men standing in the street near a parked Toyota minivan and one of the men was holding an 12oz open bottle of Corona beer.
The officers exited their vehicle and began to approach the men when they observed one of them throw a bag underneath the rear of the minivan as he began to walk towards Second Avenue. Officer Neil caught up to the man, stopped him and as they were speaking Officer Neil observed the man trying to reach his hand into his pants pocket. Officer Neil prevented him from reaching into his pocket and discovered a loaded .22 caliber Derringer.
As the suspect was being taken into custody, the other man who was stopped by Officer Papparlardo, began to interfere with the arrest. He was also taken into custody. Upon further investigation, Officer Neil retrieved a bag from underneath the Toyota minivan and recovered 21 small bags of cocaine, 10 bags of crack cocaine and dozens of pharmaceutical pills from inside.
