Officers in the 103 Precinct arrested a man and recovered a loaded illegal handgun last week after a community member reporting seeing man with what they believed was a gun. observed a man adjust a gun in his waistband on Jamaica Avenue at 2:30 pm on Saturday 10/24/15. Anti-Crime Officers Desetto and Degiralimo responded to Jamaica Avenue Saturday afternoon and searched the area. The offiers stopped a man that fit the description given by the witness and recovered a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun with a 15 round high-capacity magazine. Ten of the rounds were designated “piercing” rounds and the other five were hollow-point. The suspect, a 38-year-old-man, was placed under arrest and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a High Capacity Magazine and Criminal Possession of Piercing Ammunition.
One day earlier, Police Officer Aboagye and Police Officer Di Falco also from the 103 Precinct Anti-Crime Unit stopped a 1995 Buick on 168 Street and 91st Avenue for excessive window tinting. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana and observed a clear plastic container of alleged marijuana in plain sight. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of a gravity knife, an imitation firearm and a fully-loaded .380 handgun. The three occupants of the vehickle were arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Criminal Possession of Marijuana. The driver a 20-year-old male was also summonsed for excessive window tinting.
