On Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 1:16 a.m., three police officers assigned to the 67 Precinct Conditions Unit, in uniform and operating an unmarked department van, were driving on Clarkson Avenue approaching East 93 Street, when they encountered a 26-year-old male standing on the northeast corner of East 93 Street and Clarkson Avenue, with his back towards the officers thought to be urinating in the street.
The officers pulled over at that location, exited their vehicle, and as they approached the male, they heard a single gunshot emanate from where the male was standing. The suspect then ran from the location, towards East 94 Street and Clarkson Avenue, where he was apprehended by the ensuing officers. It was then discovered that the suspect sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his groin as a result of mishandling the firearm he had possessed.
A canvass of the incident area yielded a loaded and defaced Glock 19 handgun under the passenger rear tire of a mini-van, the result of having been thrown there by the suspect after the shooting. The firearm was recovered and the suspect was removed to Kings County Hospital, via EMS, in stable condition and in custody, with charges pending.
