Man Arrested After Crashing Car Into Garbage Truck, Gun Recovered

NYPD Transit officers arrested a man in possession of an illegal handgun after he crashed his car into a sanitation truck last Saturday in Queens. Police Officers Zimmerly and Walker were investigating a possible person injured at the Sutphin Avenue subway station when they heard what sounded like a vehicle collision.
As the two officers investigated the noise they saw the driver of a red Lexus attempting to operate his vehicle in an attempt to leave, after it had collided with a garbage truck that was making a pick up. As the officers approach the Lexus the driver exited his car and struggled with Police Officers Zimmerly and Walker as they tried to handcuff him. During the struggle, a loaded .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun was recovered.
The 27-year-old man from Queens was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, and driving while intoxicated.
