Remembering & Honoring Patrolman Phillip Cardillo

Today, members of the NYPD, both active and retired, and the community gathered in Brooklyn at the NYPD Harbor Unit Christening Ceremony and Dedication NYPD Launch #701 To Patrolman Phillip Cardillo.

On April 14, 1972, Patrolman Cardillo, of the 28 Precinct, responded to a report of an officer in need of assistance at a mosque on West 116 Street in Harlem. Upon entering the building, he along with his partner were attacked by numerous men.  During the assault, Patrolman Cardillo was shot and critically wounded. Responding officers were able to get Patrolman Cardillo out of the building and rushed him to the hospital.  Six days later he succumbed to his injuries.

Harbor Launch #701 is dedicated to Patrolman Phillip Cardillo. His dedication to protecting New York City and his sacrifice will never be forgotten.
