Police Involved Shooting

On Tuesday, June 9, at approximately 8:00 pm, two plain-clothed detectives assigned to the NYPD’s Special Victims Division were in the vicinity of East 101st Street and First Avenue when they observed a 26-year-old male, armed with a firearm, running southbound on  First Avenue towards a 21-year-old male who was walking in the same direction with his back turned to the gunman.  The detectives then observed the suspect fire multiple shots at the 21-year-old victim, striking him in the torso and leg, before the victim fled northbound on First Avenue.
The suspect, still armed with the firearm, chased the victim on First Avenue where he encountered the two detectives who identified themselves as police officers and ordered him to drop his firearm.  The suspect then pointed the firearm towards the detectives resulting in one of the detectives firing two rounds at the suspect, striking him in the torso.
EMS also responded to the location and transported the suspect to Harlem Hospital in stable condition.  The victim was transported to Metropolitan Hospital by private means and is in stable condition.  The two detectives were also transported to Mount Sinai Hospital for tinnitus.
The following individual has been charged with Attempted Murder, Felony Assault, Criminal Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Criminal Use of a Firearm, Reckless Endangerment and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.Wilvinson Diaz
