This afternoon, Police Officer Brian Moore of the 105th Precinct passed away after a valiant fight, surrounded by his family, and by the men and women of the New York City Police Department. The Bible tells us, “No one has greater love than this, than to lay down his life for his friends.” In the Department, it is this verse we think of when we say that cops do “God’s work.” For five years, Officer Moore did God’s work, like his father and his uncle before him. He was doing God’s work when he confronted a felon. He was doing it when he was struck down. He did it to prevent crime and disorder, and to keep the community free from fear. He did it to make New York City safer and fairer. Grant him rest, grant his family solace and peace, and God bless the New York City Police Department.
