NYPD Housing cops arrested a man in possession of a loaded handgun last Saturday after spotting him riding a bicycle on a Brooklyn sidewalk. Police Officers Williams and Choy were patrolling in a marked police car near the Marlboro Houses and observed the man riding a bicycle on the sidewalk.
The officers attempted to get the man’s attention by sounding their vehicle’s siren, but the man continued to ride the bike. The two officers followed and then approached the man in the rear of 2800 86th Street where they informed him why he was being stopped. Police Officer Williams conducted a name check with his NYPD issued smart phone and determined that the man, identified as 45-year-old Leonard Roberts of Brooklyn, was wanted for a warrant.
At this time, Mr. Roberts was placed under arrest. Further investigation by the officers revealed the suspect’s backpack he was wearing contained a stolen, loaded .380 Baikal semi-automatic handgun. A small quantity of marijuana was also recovered from Roberts’ pants pocket.
